Eruption Bromo

ian cameron

The last and arguably the best of the Bromo factory of other worldly landscapes. A little after sunrise I shot this of the largest volcano in the Bromo quiraing, blowing its top and venting forth a mix of ash and steam. For me the other elements the extinct cindercones with their fluted sides are as important to the whole story. By the way it blows its top abot once every 20 minutes. Please take a look at some new images recently uploaded to Transient Light and Timecatcher.

The last of the Bromo trilogy I promise but it seemed fitting to end

with a bang! Please view large the extra detail really shows through.

german press agency on 8th of june 2004: as bromo errupted (with a 3 kilometer high column of ash and smoke), 2 tourists were killed and three more wounded.

its funny, when i was there, this volcano in the back also blew out smoke.

and i think, that bromo is actually the smaller hill in the middle of the huge plateau.

best regards

The best of the three. Very well done. I do agree that the contrast and saturation adjustment offered before helps it a bit. Well done.

Actually no I disagree. While the original could benefit from a slight increase in contrast , the modified version has lost too much detail in the shadow . I think Ian's photo is propably closer to reality.

If I was honest I prefer the original version i posted probably because it very accurately represents the reality of the situation. Normally I agree I would aspire to a slightly higher contrast, however that would be at odds with the enormous distances involved and the natural haze caused by the amount of atmosphere between myself and the subjects.

Nice capture of the eruption! The orginal version accurately captured the contrast and atmosphere of Indonesian sky.
