Kim, the composition is really good and the colors really work well together. You are getting more sophisticated every month and I really appreciate your enthusiasm about photography and how positive you are with others here on PN (and jokers like me). You are an excellent example of the good side of photo.net.

Thanks, Tim, Lou Ann and Jason. Tim, photography has been my passion for more years than I care to acknowledge! I feel like I've learned the most from PN these past few years, though. I enjoy seeing the different styles, like your "dark side", Tim, and Lou Ann's fresh look at the world, mingled with Jason's enthusiasm. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Getting a "fresh look" on flamingoes is difficult, but you've managed to pull it off. It reminds me of some retro drapery fabric! Love it. Nice work.

"Elegant" is the first word that comes to my mind, too. There are so many subtle things in this portrait that seem just perfect ...like the light in the curve of the neck...the perfect softness and colors, and of course, those great leaves!

Kim,

This is a very good. Soft yet full of detail, with great color. I like the leaves in the background, and the great lighting on the bird.

I like the softness in this image . . the delicate pink tint, the texture and the diffuse background all come together very nicely. . .

Thanks to all of you. It's hard doing much of anything with flamingos since it's all been done before. It just struck me with this one that the leaf in the background matched the curve of the bird's beak fairly well.

You know, Kim, I'm not big on zoo/animal park shots but your work of late has been making me think I just need to get over it. I like this very much. Oh and I agree with Tim's comment above.

Jamie, pictures are everywhere! I am always taking pictures in my mind, even without a camera. As we drive to work, I look at the most mundane scene and try to see a picture within. I think it helps for when I really do have a camera in my hands. Glad you are getting some enjoyment out of these zoo pictures. On one hand, I like to see the beauty and uniqueness of these animals, but on the other hand, I hate to see them confined, especially the bigger animals.

The Flamingo's colors are vivid and soft, the bg. colors are complementing it very nicely. The blured leaves are hinting of its natural surrounding. nice image.

This is great, Kim. The color and detail on the flamingo are impressive, the background is great, and the composition perfect.

I hadn't thought about the leaf mimicking the beak, though perhaps that is why subconciously I could understand your reasoning for this crop.

I had though at first that if the flamingo could take up maybe two thirds of the frame rather than the current half, it would be even more asthetically pleasing, but see that this would be difficult without cropping crucial leaves (unless PS was brought in to do some rearranging...)

Anyway, great image regardless of my hang up over thirds and halves etc! Divine colouring.

I could probably do a square crop just to the left of the spikey leaves, but it was the long, hanging-down one I wanted to keep. I have lots more flamingo pictures and will probably be playing with them soon, too. Maybe I'll do something with your thirds, Lucy. :)
