mcgarity 0 Posted February 18, 2006 It is quite an appealing photo even though compositionally the dog is much too centered. The color and contrast are outstanding. The vignetting in this is actually a plus. Painters have been darkening the edges of canvases for centuries to focus attention on the subject. It works for photographs as well. Ansel Adams employed this technique in many of his images. Link to comment

lbattjes 0 Posted February 18, 2006 What a lovely little guy! He's really adorable and gives this shot instant appeal. I agree that dead center may not be the best composition, but since I am often guilty of that myself, I really can't say much ;) Love the lighting, and agree on the vignetting, it adds, not subtracts IMO. Nicely done. Leslie Link to comment

alexguerra 0 Posted February 19, 2006 Hi everyone, thanks a lot for taking the time to comment. I may agree about the vignetting being a bit too much as I tend to overdo this kind of effects sometimes, you know how it is, just one more tweak becomes into too many! Regarding the centered composition; this time I have to stick with my initial feeling. This one didn't feel 'dead' centered to me, but just right. I tried different crops before posting but none pleased me enough as much as leaving the dog in the center. I guess sometimes the rules may not fit every case. Elena, you can see where he is peeking from in this other photo I've just posted. Link to comment

Jack McRitchie 150 Posted September 26, 2007 Centering and vignetting are fine with me as long as they help to reveal the personality of this pooch which I think you have done quite well. The emphasis here is not so much on the composition (though I think it's very effective) but on the dog itself. One must know the intent of the photo before applying any compositional rules.
