photo could be a bit sharper, but that's my mind working. and it might be this thing we call the internet. LoL maybe a little more room for the car or a diffrent angle. maybe have more of the front end come and get you for the corner look

The image is not as crisp as it could be. Also try panning your shot to blur the background to give the idea of speed. If you use a computer then this can be done with in photo shop in a few clicks.

The background could be less ugly & distracting. Panning might help, and maybe shooting from another position.

I appreciate the input. The original on film is sharper, I didnt scan at a very high resolution since it was just going onto the net. The background is a little ugly, most of the Las Vegas track is like that and since I did not have photo credentials my position was pretty limited.

I could have used a slower shutter speed to blur the background, I was shooting pretty fast because of the 400mm lens I did not want to much blur.

Someone mentioned blurring the background with Photoshop. How could this be done without affecting the car?

Any comments on the car itself? Is there a way to reduce the glare coming off the car other than moving (agian placement was pretty limited0?

Thanks to all that respond.

A polarizer would have probably helped with glare. Panning a 400 at slower shutter speeds is tricky, but a monopod would help. As for faking a slower shutter speed shot with Photoshop background blur, personally, I dislike that sort of fakery. But, if you tried it, you'd also have to somehow give the wheels more rotational blur.

Dont lesson to thoughs who say dont use photoshop. Its a tool and nothing more. Do you think the people using dark rooms (wet photography) do not use every trick in the book to create a better picture.

Photoshop will not make a great picture out of a bad one but if the basics are right and it needs tweaking then why the hell not use a tool that will enable you to do it yourself.

I did not have a lot of time to do what I suggested but here is my version of your car.

All I did was quickly cut a copy of the car using the lasso tool. Then select the background image and use motion blur. the copy of the car remained on top of the background and was uneffected by the blur. This took 5 mins max.

I also blured out the wheels slightly to give the impression of speed.

Given more time I would have corrected the lighting more using curves and levels and using a bit of selective burning and dodging to darken and lighten some areas. I did adjust it a little but just ran out of time.

There is a problem if you look at the back of the car as the blur has carried the car into the background. This should be corrected but as I said it was only ment as a quick example.

All the best

chris.
