Light House Peak, Palo Duro Canyon

Something is not right with this picture, but I'm not sure what. Any

advice? Thanks!

Looks better at the top than in the foreground.

Maybe you could hold detail from the foreground up to the top better with some camera movements.

Otherwise it looks fine to me.

James, I find your photograph is quite interesting. There is plenty of detail in the rock formation, and the clouds keep the sky from being boring. Your placement of the top of the rock near the thirds is good top-to-bottom. A few things that you might consider changing (esp. if you are able to reshoot) is the placement of the formation right-to-left. I would probably place the rocks on the right side as the diagonal lines of the formation tend to lead my eye off the photo. Also the sky is blown out in the middle-right portion. Maybe some digital tweaking?

First of all, the "large" version of this is likely way too large for the resolution that most people run their monitors at. Saying that, the hi-rez post shows that there is some blurring or distortion in the foreground that looks like it could have been caused by lens distortion (were you using a wide-angle for this?) or actual camera movement. Oh yeah, maybe a polarizer to prevent the sky on the RH side from being so blown-out.

Doug, your right. I didn't intend for it to be this large. I guess I should post a smaller one. I'm not sure if this would qualify as wide angle or not. It was a 28-55mm lens set at 28. I left all filters at camp... :( Thanks for the critique!

 

Thank you too Roy. I will have an oppurtunity to reshoot soon. When I took this it was the last day of a camping trip and by the time I got there, the sun was setting behind me. I figured the image would have been too dark if taken from the opposite side. Next time I'll wait for day break and hit it from the other side.
