I like the idea of this shot but think it needs some improvements. First, I like the shapes of the lights (and especially the fact that they're hanging uneven). The red cloth of the table provides good contrast to the pool balls and I like the composition. The shot can be improved (in my opinion) by having the balls placed in position for play, without the triangle and not against the edge of the table. If you wanted to be particular, you could also arrange the balls, so that the numbers are showing and the high and low balls are alternating with the eight ball in its proper spot. I know I'm being a bit picky but I think it would create a stronger image. I'd be interested in seeing this shot again if you chose to redo it.

Nanette, I must admit that later on I was disappointed that I had not payed close attention to the arrangement of the balls, nonetheless I posted it because I loved image.

The balls being in the triangle aren't a big problem for me... but I certainly respect your opinion.

Thanks for the commentary!

What stands out to me is the stark black background and the clean white lights. Visually simple yet dramatic with the vivid red table. Well done!

but I agree completely with Nanette and the suggestions that he/she made. I think the balls set-up in their proper position awaiting the break without the triangle would be more effective. Also, one other suggestion is to rotate the image slightly, as the top of the table by the cue ball slopes slightly to the left.

I don't wish to sound nit-picky, because this is really an amazing photo, but I think it could be even better. Excellent shot either way, a really good idea.

I'm a she but I'm not being nit-picky. ;) I also agree with Clint about the sloping but I didn't say it at the time. Thanks for noticing that Clint.
