I like the composition of this photo. The young shepherd in the light and the flock with the herder in the dark background. Perhaps the contrast between the two is a bit strong and therefore the manipulation is too evident. Unfortunately the right eye of the boy looks strange. Karl

THe contrast between the background and the first plan seems to be too big - it looks as it would be a bit artificial. It looks strange.

I like they way in which you have used lighting to isolate the subject, which is after all the shepherd. Yet you have given enough detail to show [in the background] the sheep.

I must admit though that I would have liked to see a little more detail in the right side of the face. Just a FRACTION lighter.

...it looks fake! The lighting makes it look like the boy is simply standing in front of a backdrop or a big projection screen playing a movie in the background. It's an amazing composition but just doesn't evoke the same emotional response as it would if it looked realistic.

Good composition, but as Karl mentioned due to the high contrast of the boy and the dark background the manipulation is quite obvious. But it still looks good... regards alex

I agree with Karl on the too strong contrast but admire the calm background. I would have placed the shephard over the frame to make it clear from the very beginning, that we have here a composit.

Happy New Year
