i like it a lot! if it wasn't for the green leaves, i would've said the guy and the boat were lost in the middle of nowhere and were trying to find the way back; not desperate of being lost, but peacefully and calm.

Ah, your reading is 100% correct. The person was not lost. It was as if he was welcoming the nice morning with his calm and serene movements. It seemed he was enjoying the morning's work.
