I think the composition, itself, is outstanding, and love the symbolism.

However, I don't understand the vertical lines at all. At first look, I thought perhaps you had scanned a bad print, but I see that this is a digital image, negating the need to scan from a print...so I have to assume that you used some image editing/processing program to add them yourself as some sort of "effect." If so, my question for you is...why?

Bottom line for me is this. Love the composition and the image, but the lines contribute nothing to the image.

Without the lines, and perhaps a bit more contrast, this would be an outstanding image.

Jim,thank you so much for your comments and also compliments .about the vertical lines i thought that this "effect" could make the photo more

effective,regards.

Dear Jim,

I think this is an image that defines photography in a way that a marginal and a utilitarian image does not. I don't think this image is about sharp focus, optimal contrast and clarity. In fact, as you are aware there are plenty of well captured Bird shots and portraits on this site. The very same reason that you don't see any detail in the man's face and no catchlights or even eyes on the bird's face, makes it more meaningful and mystical. More often than not, specially for a close up image, detail helps tell the story but for an image like this it would be distracting in deed-I would be missing the forest for the trees! Detail could be as distracting to the overall message as color is. Of course these are not what you probably already know.

The aging lines in the image, don't necessarily bother me. superstition reminds me of antiquity, black and whit reminds me of the old days and so does the aging lines.

Kind regards.

A very nice photo with the bird on the foreground, very original!

(Thanks for your friendly comment; Ellen.)

Very good looking and meaningful composition. I agree with Cyrus K about the stripes issue. My only (minor) complain would be the completely white foreground (water?), but then again it is your vision and most certainly you wanted it to look that way. Congrats on a very good shot and for your very enjoyable portfolio too. Cheers, Alex
