This is one close up shot! Quite fabulous. Think perhaps the blue might be a bit intense against the stark beauty of your subject. My gosh, this is really amazing!!! I'm going to look at some of your other shots!

This image has been selected for discussion. It is not necessarily the "best" picture the Elves have seen this week, nor is it a contest. It is simply an image that the Elves found interesting and worthy of discussion. Discussion of photo.net policy, including the choice of Photograph of the Week should not take place here, but in the Site Feedback forum.

When including images, please make sure they are relevant to the discussion, not more than 511 pixels wide, sufficiently compressed and make sure to enter a caption when uploading.

Very interesting piece. I find my eye escaping out of the top though, so I'd crop at least a third off the top of this one, into the white feathers of the head a bit. You'd lose some nice detail in the darder feathers but you would study the image longer. Congrats, MS

Great picture, Harry! This one really shows the power of an eagle. So close-up and detailed you can't miss anything.

Wow! That is one clear, detailed shot. The eyes and the way you can see every crack in the beak really draw one into it. While I agree with Michael that a slight crop would make it a bit more dramamtic, I prefer traditional aspect ratios and I think the picture would suffer if you took anything off either side. The blue is fine. This is just a great, great picture.

Harry, your work with the eagles has been admired by me for some time - always great stuff. Looks like a dead-on exposure, and great detail in the whites.

Is it the scan, or the compresion that caused the slight halo with the blue sky demarcation lines?

Agreed the crop would make it more dramatic, but that's not to say this ain't dramatic as it stands. Well done.

Rather than cropping the top, why not darken the blue sky on the top, just a little bit. It would help keep the viewer focused on the area of higher contrast at the bottom. If you darken the top, rather than crop it, you still get a reference as to how large/powerful the eagle is and how small the meal is. The wings look to be massive shoulders of strength, and I would hate to see the tops of them cropped.

Absolutely great picture. Such action is remarkable. I am troubled by a bit of what must be the bird's tail, immediately right of center near the bottom, in among the sticks on which the fish is being held. It looks more like a shadow from a camera flash against a piece of blue cardboard. I know it's not, but either darkening it or "cloneing" it out would keep the eye from focusing on that little dark bit. Congratulations on making it to this page. It truly is a super photograph.
