Joan, very good photo, but I would like to see more foreground. Maybe I am wrong but I think that you have used software to remove noise and together with sharpening with big radius it gave this picture a plastic feeling. Try to convert it to B&W and do not mind the noise. Or maybe use Neatimage software - it does wonders and in basic version it is for free (www.neatimage.com).

Thanks a lot, Michal, for your gentle and clever advice. Probably you're right about noise reduction, though I can't remember exactly if it was Neat Image (an old friend of mine) or another type of filter. Let me add that warm tones were oversaturated intentionally in order to avoid a typical "foggy" scene with soft tones and poor contrast.

About B/W conversion, can't see the difference or advantatge/disadvantatge betwen colored or desaturated scene. Same about noise. I mean I usually underexpose my shots, so noise it's an undesirable artifact to fight against. Some advice or suggestion for "aesthetic noise" and "B/W fashion" understanding?

About foreground, you're definetely right. Unfortunately, this shot was taken from a road, and closer foreground (cropped from current scene) was asphalt and metallic fence.

Regards :)

Joan, in my opinion the noise is almost always less disturbing in B&W photos, maybe after watching thousands of old photos we are just accustomed to it. I use Neat Image to reduce the grain in my Kodak Gold 400 scans and I never eliminate it completely because the effect is somewhat artificial, similar to the look of the green trees in the distance on your photograph. But on the other hand the distant trees and foliage always look a little bit plastic on digital photos. As I have bought a digital camera quite recently I do not know how to fix that problem but I have observed this effect frequently on many digital images with landscapes.

Anyway, I like your image for its subtle light and mood. Kind regards, Michal.

I fully understand your explanation, Michal. I've never shot in B/W (nor film nor digital), so that's probably the reason why I'm not used to deal with slight noise effects. I guess in this shot, a bit underexposed, noise appeared when correcting color channels, so B/W would have avoided processing artifacts. Agree with you about "plastic" effect when noise reduction is applied in excess.

Thanks again :)
