I know this Arch we stopped by there on our way back to California. It was all lights as we drove over the bridge. We took a lot pictures only from the other side of the river and we were much closer. Its really beautiful all lite up at night. Please view my photos if you get a chance.

Sorry when I was here before I forgot to rate the photo. I love it. I posted some of our arch photos if you get a chance please look at them and tell me what you think.

Thank you Mary and thanks for the email. I did this because it was something new for me but it is only a so, so, photograph. My camera just won't pick up sharp images at night I am pushing the limitations of the camera. The other reason I did this was because I want to encourage others with better equipment to give this a try. It is my own belief that this structure is an engineering marvel. I will take a look at your photos and I am sure they are great although I don't often rate architecture so I might not feel to comfortable actually rating them.

i would crop both so that you only have the middle half. a bit off center would work too, but the outer edges of this are just too boring and underexposed, imo.

Did you use a tripod? Good job merging the pictures, although I dont think the panoramic works in this shot, as there is not much going on to the far left and right of the image. Perhaps using a longer lens would have worked better?

check out this panoramic by Blakeway

I live near St Louis and intend to try one of these myself but I guess I'll have to wait until the water freezes for that nice effect.

Yes I used a tripod, and unfortunatly I am pushing my camera to its limits. The digital camera leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to night shots. I did this more for fun than anything else.

As always I would caution anyone trying to take this shot at night from the east side. Know the area you are shooting from, check it out first in the daylight. If possible go with more than one person and be carefull.

Thanks, when you are right you are right. The cropped photo does look better. I took this photo last year before I moved to California. I wanted to include the entire river scape due to the river bending slightgtly and the location that I forced shoot from makes the river appear to narrow as in the cropped photo. Most of the professional river scape photos sold in St Louis are taken from the air which allows for the bending of the river. I attempted to correct for this by going from the eastside of the Poplar Street Bridge to the east side of the Eads Bridge, including the whole river. I know it appears dark on some monitors but it does print well. Because the people who have viewed the print already know the topography of the area they prefer the entire scape but I see your point.

Thanks for taking the time to comment and rate I enjoy it much more when people are clear in expressing their ideas for imporvments.
