Water Shute Bowfiddle

ian cameron

I rarely shoot landscapes in the middle of the day but on this occasion it seemed justifiable as the water pounding over the rocks and along the gully needed a little bit of freezing and considerable depth of field. The bright conditions permitted this and probably enhanced the rugged feel of the rocks and the crisp quality of the image. Fortunately the wet rocks were a lively colour too. Pentax 67II, 55-100 zoom, polariser, F22 at 1/15 sec, velvia. Please feel free to visit my website Timecatcher is once again active. Transient Light and Timecatcher.

Midday light to partially freeze the action of the water and provide

adequate depth of field and a rugged crisp quality to the rocks.

Very bold of you, Ian, to do this one at noon, but I think it works. There is a pronounced "cutting" feel to the light, as much as there is also in the sharpness of the landforms. The softness in the wave action hightens this feeling for me. This is real food for the Pentax. Good photograph...Regards.

Yes it is flat light and yes I have been out and taken this scene at both extremes of the day. Midday light is generally frowned upon but I still think that in this case it suits the subject. Break the rules have fun, no harm done.

I like the clarity and naturalness of this, the

yellowish rock in the foreground gives a little colour which adds significantly to the image.

The composition is not that interesting to me. I like the sharpness and detail, but also agree that lighting is not optimal.
