would a higher fstop have yielded more focus in the center perhaps? just an idea, i'm totally out of my element here, i'm just a wayyyyyyy jr. amateur

It might be an f/stop thing, but I'm guessing it's just the limitation of the lens. Nicely positioned, if a bit conventional. Did you use a tripod?

I take all my flowers hand held as a tripod gets a bit tricky unless there is no wind & that is unusual.
