After getting driven out of the Patriarch Grove by a heavy rain, I drove to the edge of the

storm to see if I could find a rainbow in the evening light coming in under the clouds. I

found these upturned roots of a dead bristlecone and raced to set up the camera as the

rainbow came and went.

Thanks for your comments.

Very powerful image. Gives one the impression that it is trying to pierce through the skies. Great job! (7/5).

Many thanks for your kind comments. In response to Barry, no fill-flash was used. These toppled bristlcone roots, which are probably about four feet high, were positioned at a high point on the summit plateau of the White Mountains, and were catching unobstructed late light streaming in from across the Sierra Nevada to the west. In fact, it was a completely straight shot, partly because I was rushing like mad to get the camera set up to simply expose a sheet of film before the rainbow vanished. That said, I don't think it would have benefitted from any fill-flash or filtration anyway.
