leighperry 0 Posted October 17, 2005 This is a rework. Using 5 stops of grad filter captures a wide range of colour even on humble Astia 100F, and I got sick of how fruity the photograph was. I've started again from the raw scan and removed some of the colour excesses. Link to comment
Jim_Dockery_Photos 2 Posted October 17, 2005 I love the subtle color. Perfect calm "Zen" photo (could put it on the ceiling of a dentist's office for the patients to mellow out with). Pleas add camera details next time. Link to comment
minicucci 0 Posted October 17, 2005 It is beautiful, Leigh. Such clarity. Color here is valuable but a backseat partner to the essential clarity. Zen-like is right. Link to comment
poutnik 1 Posted October 17, 2005 Leigh, this is beautiful in it's paved way to the sun, it's subtle and yet powerful colors and the clarity of textures below the sea-surface. Just excellent... Jiri Link to comment
davidroossien 0 Posted October 17, 2005 Excellent choice for a foreground rock. Its 3 dimensional look invites the viewer to reach out and touch it. I like how the tones build toward the finish. You wouldn't even need the other rocks, but they also reinforce the pathway. I love these kinds of photos, but don't seem to find many here in MI. The bottom of this is so good I don't think you need the sky. A fine example of using a normal lens for landscape. You get a relatively large amount of background to go with the foreground. seandepuydt 2 Posted October 18, 2005 I think you have a tough choice on your hands. Either version is outstanding. The details in the foreground rocks and the calm water with the sand below are what take this to another level. - Sean Link to comment
andrewpgrant 0 Posted October 18, 2005 I like the way the foreground rocks seem to lead off into the gap in the horizon... well composed, there. Very peaceful and beautiful photo. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted October 18, 2005 Leigh, it looks like 2 worlds, the under and upper one.The under is static, and the stones of the upper are taking the viewer to the infinite. The colors and transparency are adding to the unusual feeling of two worlds. Pnina Link to comment
dimitris 0 Posted October 18, 2005 Wonderful seascape Leigh. The placement of rocks makes it a superb composition. Link to comment
root 0 Posted October 20, 2005 I had to go back and forth a few times, but I now see what was bothering you. I'd say you've fixed it. It needs very little color to make it work, IMHO. Link to comment
paul pinkley 0 Posted October 20, 2005 great use of subject matter, the slow shift in color with the reworked image works wells and does not need too much saturation to work in my opinion. The ASTIA appears to work well with color accuracy and was a great choice for this capture.5 stops grad eh? That early morning sunrise gets very bright very quick and very very early at the moment!! carsten_ranke 0 Posted November 6, 2005 Outstanding landscpe ! The gradient of underwater/ water surface tones is superb, and management of 5 stops dynamic range is not an easy task, perfect work ! I wonder how a slightly wider FOV would look, in a square format. Link to comment
miles_hecker 0 Posted November 7, 2005 Hi Leigh, When I load this into Photoshop and view it on a black background I really like it. In web browser color space with the horrible white background slapping my eyes it looks a bit too flat. I've found I need to add 15-20 saturation units to a Photoshop file to get close on Photo.net. Maybe someday we will see a grey background from the elves. Hope things are going photographically well down under. I just got my 5D and it really is a great little camera. Maybe next year Pentax will comeout with the promised digital 645! Link to comment
leighperry 0 Posted November 8, 2005 Carsten, thanks for the kind words. I'm a lot happier with the shot with the colour excesses of the tranny under control. I can see what you mean regarding the wider / square view. The rocks are pretty tight to the edges and a square format would let them breathe. Miles, that 5D is a pretty tempting package, I have to admit. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 19, 2006 One of my favorite compositions among those in your portfolio. I particularly like the subtle gradation between the underwater foreground and the rocks portruding from the water. Link to comment
