Hi there Calin... Nice image. The position of the apples is offering a pure diagonal that connects lower right to top left corner. In doing so there is one half of an image filed with 'stuff' and the other half is almost void of image. I think it unbalances the image abit. See image since my explanation usually stink.

On my monitor there is a redish hue, might just be my monitor though. I do appreciate it more in Black and with the contrast moved up just a bit more.

Hard shot to really pull off. simple subject, not much to grab the attention so some form of lighting or affect must help make it work. You did an admirable job...

Calin, I think you did well lighting-wise. There's good detail on the rear of the plate, throughout the image actually. Could probably be a touch warmer front left. I like the capture angle; negative space doesn't really bother me given that it's an intentionally high key shot, a lighting experiment.

Hi, thanks for your comments;

Dave: I applied a warming filter on the B&W version, so it has a color cast; I think it deppends a lot on the displays we're using.

Seven: you're right, i think i can push more details in the back of the plate.

I aggree that it is a little bit unbalanced, i will try a higher angle and a square format.

cheers,

clain

Good job. I've nothing to critique here - none of my usual cropping suggestions!! For me the composition works fine, although a tiny bit more space at bottom might be an idea, really tiny though.

You have managed the lighting very well, with just enough shadow below the plate and on the left of the main fruit.

I too see some coloured streaks in it( very pale yellow-orange). The most noticeable one is curved around the top right corner about half way from corner to plate. Another on right at tip of plate and the third one just above the fruit stalk ... Could it be some result of the compression ?

Thanks for showing - this is motivating.

The plate gets lost into the background. Perhaps cut some of the light back there and get seperation with a darker plate against the light background.

The dark part of the apple slice is distracting, same for the seed in the larger apple part. These don't bother me as much as the lack of seperation between plate and background.

The only thing that bothers me a little is not seeing the whole seed on the large part of the apple, but that is very minor.

I like the negative space. The plate fading into the background is part of what makes the compostion work. It allows you to explore the negative space rather than staying stuck on the plate with the apple pieces.
