I really like the treatment - the high contrast, black background etc. My only nit is that the gentleman's knee distracts from his face. While the scars on the knee etc are consistent with the message - sorrow and hardship - the face is so strong that I don't think you need it and it would benefit from the resulting closer crop you could do.
