jeff.grant 0 Posted August 31, 2005 A fairly bland dawn and a less saturated film produced something a little more subtle, your comments are most welcome, thanks. Link to comment
eirik_holm_yvik 0 Posted August 31, 2005 Simply gorgeous. The composition is excellent and effective. The details in the foreground are stunning and the blend between the sea and rocks are very nice. I think you did a very wise choice in including so much foreground here. Link to comment
kyang 0 Posted August 31, 2005 Jeff, this the best of your new series. Very powerful. Without red-color, the seascape could be great too. This is pretty much well-done wonderful seascape. Link to comment
robvine 0 Posted September 1, 2005 I think the subtle tones work really well here and there is so much detail that the image is very interesting to look at! Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted September 1, 2005 Like everyone else, I like this a lot. Interesting color, good leading line, excellent sharpness, and strong composition make this an appealing shot. My only edit would be at the top left corner: just a bit of rock or something jutting into the frame. Nice shot--another great addition to your series. Link to comment
eric_fredine 0 Posted September 2, 2005 It's really BLUE Jeff. Have you thought about colour correcting it - there are lots of other colours here: yellow sand, green moss - but they all get overwhelmed by the amount of blue. If I can figure out how to link something in to this thread I'll show you another interpretation for your consideration... Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted September 4, 2005 Thanks for the feedback folks. It is most appreciated as usual. Eric, the truth is probably somewhere in between. I left it as I hope that you are seeing it because it is close to what I saw on the day. It was a very bland sunrise with little red bouncing around, and I was pointing down into a channel which had a lot of wave movement. Everything, with the exception of the top of the FG rocks was covered by waves a number of times during the exposure. That was exactly the effect that I was after. I hate to think what this would have looked like on Velvia. Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted September 5, 2005 Jeff, Colour is such a subjective element that with, or without, 'correcting' it the scene looks fine, though your original is more moody. I like it for the 'S' curve of the shoreline leading to the horizon and your short treatment of the sky which tends to keep a lid on the composition. One time for sure that the square format is superior as I can't conceive of a crop which would improve it. Great result. Best, LM. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 5, 2005 Jeff, The blue/violet hue gives it a very special atmospher of the special time before day is begining and night termination.Thats the feeling, and I don't know what time it realy was. Good composition, beautifully detailed. Pnina Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted September 5, 2005 Len and Pnina, thank you both for your comments. This is a pre-dawn shot, and one that I like a lot. Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted September 5, 2005 What I like the most (in addition to your skillful composition and technique, which I praised many times) is the lack of apparent sense of scale of this shot... I go back and forth from seing some rocks quite close to the lens, to an immensely large bay, with the tiny black speck on the sand being a wrecked boat. Colour-wise, I think the original post has a eeire and evocative flavour to it which gets slightly lost pulling out all of the other colours. Nitpicking: the black area just below the horison to the left...I'd have preferred nothing else than more blue sand/sea there, rather than that hint of a structure. Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted September 5, 2005 Salvatore, thank you again for your kind comments. I contemplated whether to leave the piece of rock in or remove it. It probably is a bit of a jarring element, I'm glad that you like the feeling of the image. There is something magic in these places in the early light with the waves rushing up the channel. I'm pleased that I have been able to convey that feeling to other people. Link to comment
