The painting was found in origin in the Visconti collection to Milan in order to pass then in that one of the Litta family, from which it draws the name: in 1865 it was acquired from zar Alexander II, and transported from table on burlap with remarkable damages. The attribution to Leonardo by now is consolidated but they do not lack criti to us that they report it to follows to us Lombardic of the master.
