ddemers 0 Posted August 31, 2005 Colors of the sky, texture in the sand and the lightning are perfect. It should have been a pleasure to wait for the exact moment! Great job! 7/7 Link to comment

ghuczek 0 Posted September 1, 2005 Great shot. Almost like it is on some other planet. One very minor thing ... I think the neutral grad reduces the sky tones just a tad too much. The balance in the upper portion would be slightly stronger if it were a bit lighter. You can also see the light fall off near the horizon on the water, due to the ND grad, yet you would expect that the colour cast in the sky would be reflected more strongly there, beyond the shadows of the distant hills. augus 0 Posted September 1, 2005 The thumbnail made be go 'wow' but when I clicked and opened it, I had to upgrade that to 'WOW,WOW'. Amazing composition, color, tone and details. Thanks for sharing. Link to comment

alec_kinnear 0 Posted September 2, 2005 I would like to see a bigger version. It looks like there might be a little bit of that dreadful glow effect (popular on scanned nudes). Otherwise a wonderful moment caught. Interesting set of lines. Beautiful shape. Link to comment
humnahussain 0 Posted September 2, 2005 Very beautiful.... no other words to describe it... Link to comment

pmj 6 Posted September 12, 2005 This image has been selected for discussion. It is not necessarily the "best" picture the Elves have seen this week, nor is it a contest. It is simply an image that the Elves found interesting and worthy of discussion. Discussion of photo.net policy, including the choice of Photograph of the Week should not take place here, but in the Site Feedback forum. When including images, please make sure they are relevant to the discussion, not more than 511 pixels wide, sufficiently compressed and make sure to enter a caption when uploading. matt_mohr 0 Posted September 12, 2005 Great capture. Maybe I am being influenced by the fact that it is time for lunch, but the beach line looks like chunks of chocolate and the sky seems made of caramel. Delicious! Link to comment
dave_nitsche 0 Posted September 12, 2005 OK image. A bit off balanced IMO though. The dark right side just overpowers the left side and makes the image look off kilter. Maybe toning down the left side a bit? Would be interesting to see this without the ND and maybe a little more to the left (camera move, not pan) to allow the water to control the image, not be a point of tension. A stronger foreground subject might have helped it also. It's just a bit boring for my taste. The one thing I do love about the frame is the palette that it offers. Wonderful warm colors. Congrats on the POW. Enjoy the week... Dave Link to comment
michaelseewald 237 Posted September 12, 2005 Dave, I love the composition and strong leading lines, center of interest etc., but I can't get over the feeling of how un-real it looks. The mid-section of your art here should be reflecting those colors from the sky, but they show only normal white clouds. This was mentioned by only one person out of the dozens of comments submitted before it was chosen POW- which is incredible in itself! Move that guy to the head of the class. As he also suggested, maybe if you added the sepia through-out that area of water it would look 'normal', but of course it would take that nice blue-green color away. Why did all of those folks just mimic each other and not mention the truth? Are they blind? I once went into a gallery, while making my own art, up in Scotland. The guy had used a sepia filter on each and every image. After looking at about 1/4 of the gallery I had to leave. It immediately reminded me of that work. Close but no cigar. MS Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 12, 2005 Wait - I don't agree ... although I may be addressing something here about which I am rather ignorant (PS techniques) ... but I don't believe that he changed the sky to sepia. I believe that the sky was that color when he took the image (the sunrises/sets in Alaska are spectacular!!) ... and the water in Alaska isn't always the same color as the sky depending on what is "feeding" the body of water. On my one trip to Alaska (spent a month exploring many parts of the state), I found that there were many bodies of water that were milky white if they were fed by glacial run-off ... the white color created by the silt in the water. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.... And, technically, I love the detail in the foreground and the depth of the image. The colors, in my opinion, are brilliant! Link to comment
ben_rubinstein___mancheste 0 Posted September 12, 2005 Um.. if he was using a grad on the sky then the colour of the sky which is contained in the clouds would necessarily be lighter if not blown out in the water wouldn't it? Link to comment
yongbo 0 Posted September 12, 2005 The color in the middle section is the water not the sky. You got the sepia tone from the higher color temperature. Link to comment
keithc 0 Posted September 12, 2005 Another example of foreground rocks leading to water leading to sunset. Seems to be a formula for success here on photo.net. Link to comment
