The guy has a great face and I like the composition and the sharpness of the figures in the foreground, but what has happened with the background?

Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like the DoF was done digitally. I think it works well given that the emphasis is on the man and the bird. But the edges of the falcon could be more precise.

Agree with the comments about the background. Would also like to see the whole owl (it is an owl, right?). Still like the shot.

I agree with all of the above. This is a fabulous shot and tonal execution that is marred a bit by the background. The precision of the man's face and the owl is just outstanding! With some work on the background, I think you have an award worthy image.

 

Attached is one version with a fully blurred background, a slightly tighter crop and the owl edged just a little closer to the man.

It is a very good portrait, I like the postprocessing although maybe it is a bit excessive. I would like also to see the original. Thanks for sharing

Rui, in fact I think the background is taking all the attentions. You should push it a litle bit more, or maybe you should pull it down to the man. Although that, I think the man's expression is great. B&W tones was a good choise. Regrads, CC.

To me this is a very goos image, a good work even in the background.
