dave_flanagan
I recently noticed a strange artifact in my negatives, taken with a Rolleiflex 2.8F. The corners are not square, but rather are curved, like arrowheads. Is this a result of the camera (film loading, maybe) or processing (overvigorous agitation during processing)? Or, is it normal? They are only a millimeter or two across. The negatives otherwise are fine (such a difference, upgrading from 35 mm!). Thanks,Dave
w morgan
Dave ~ are you using a lens hood or filter on your "taking" lens?
richard baznik
I suspect Dave is referring not to rounded corners that subtract from the image area, but to the protruding points that go slightly beyond the normal image area. I get these on images from my Bronica GS-1 system, and they are the result of the shape of the film mask. They are perfectly normal, as far as I can tell. brian_turner2
Could it be the silhouette of the film transport rollers at the top and bottom of the frame? I've never used a Rollei, but several other TLRs that I have do this in the corners. On mine, it is always the distinct shape of the rollers in the corners that prevent a clean "square" corner... I kinda like it!
chris_waller
Yes, I get those on one of my MF cameras. It's due to the shape of the mask.
