chris_kedrowski
Ok, I started out in photopgraphy with a Rebel 2000, and have upgraded to an Elan 7, so I know the differences between these cameras. However, my dad is starting to get into photography, and I'm not sure which lower cost camera is the best choice now (Ti, G, G2, KII, 2000). Does anyone know which Rebel is the best, or are they all basically the same thing? Thanks in Advance!
rob_murray
The Rebel TI is the top of the line Rebel and has illuminated focus points, the 2000 does not, not sure of the others... Difference in rebel prices cant be that much, get the best.
phule
The Rebel Ti for the faster and better AF system.
mtwhite
Either the 2000 or the Ti, and he'd best decide only after trying both of them in his hands. The Ti has a pretty unique grip. Some people find it really uncomfortable. Most of my customers with big hands (retail sales monkey speaking here, btw) opt for the 2000 with a battery grip.
The K2's not bad, but also has the Ti's grip, isn't as good as the 2000 in some ways (no DOF preview!), and typically retails for the same price as the 2000. Also, the autofocus in the K2 is really irritating. There's no confirm beep or illuminated points, so you only know you've focused if you take your eyes off the scene and look in the bottom right of the viewfinder for the green dot, or if you listen really, really carefully to the lens.
No point in buying the G's at all, unless he can get them at a really good discount. The 2000 has the same body shape and is just plain better all-around.
leeblackman
From what I've seen in Canon's product line, the Rebel Ti is the latest greatest in the 35mm Rebel Line Up. Its the next model up from the Rebel 2000.
peter_phan
It depends on how many bells and whistles you want on your camera. If you need illuminated focus sensors and a big illuminated back LCD, get the Ti. For for a camera that has all the essentials, get the Rebel 2000. I don't think the G, G2, and K2 have depth of field preview.
larry_underwood
Some other advantages of the Rebel Ti are the adjustable viewfinder diopter, stainless steel lens mount, and illuminated LCD panel (which is much larger and on the back.....rather than on the top of the camera). I don't care for the new grip style, but will put up with it to get the rest.
river side
with a 50mm 1.8 mkII.. that would still be around $150.. excellent starter kit...
hanwook_kim
Some thing that the ti causes too much attention making it difficult to take candit shots. I can only assume you thought the 2000 was a good learner's camera, why not recommend the same to your dad? Unless there was something about the 2000 you didn't like. I personally like my 2000. I don't have to worry about it. It was cheap.
rob_murray
The Rebel TI can also take an accessory grip with a shutter release button just for verticals, so can the 2000 body. I really like the TI for the illuminated focus points. That huge LCD in the back is great since my near vision is not that great but I can sure read this LCD. The 2000 has one on top of the camera about the size of a postage stamp. Someone mentioned the silver color, it looks great to me. Oh yeah in the hot florida sun this weekend it did not get as hot as the other black body camera we took, so that must be good. Grip size is a little bigger than normal, but even with smaller hands, it feels just fine. The adjustable diopter feature is unheard of in a camera at this price too. The lens mount is steel, not plastic and the AF is faster than the 2000, the motor drive is also faster. Also the built in flash sits up higher for less redeye. My favorite walking around lens is the Canon 22-55mm USM that they discontinued a few years ago. It only weighs 6 oz... With this lens it becomes the ultimate point and shoot! dutta
Hey Chris,
I would say 2000 is a great camera, but like all the photography enthusiasts here, I would recommend putting money into new lenses for 2000, rather than going in for a camera. A DOF preview may still be something that you are looking for when upgrading your system. Let us know more about your lens specification.
Take care
Dutta
