FSU 50mm lens test, wide open at 1.2m

these photos are the low_res images from a test roll using 4 lenses, a 40mm

rokkor 40 at f2, and 3 fsu lenses (I-22, I-50, J-8, and I-61 -- not in that

order for those who like to guess).

film plane was 1.2 meters back from the "OCD" pedal and arrowhead water bottle

to the left. Most other objects are at a known distance from film plane.

Exposure was wide open, or opened one extra stop on some. Film was Fuji Superia

400. Camera back was Leica CL on a tripod. Shutter speeds were either 1/60 or

1/125.

All lenses were set at the 1.2 meter mark, for one of the lenses, all photos

are OOF, which makes me wonder if either the indexing is off at 1.2m, or if I

remembered to fully uncollapse it ... All fsu lenses used the same screw to M

adapter.

Sorry about the lame web page, and boring subject material. What I was simply trying to do was to know which of my lens was focusing right on the center OCD guitar pedal wide open and in some cases a stop above from f2 to f3.5 depending on lens. Some objects were 3" in front of, and some 3" 6" 8" behind, etc.

Basically this test told me that the I-50, or the one I have doesn't close focus by scale, though it does focus well at distance and infinity, so I will have to retest that one by eye.

The photos also show the more classic contrast and softness of the older lenses wide open, though interesting to me, is the performance of the I61 which I didn't expect to be as good. I did expect the J8 to perform as I've used it and seen a lot of photos from it.

If anyone wants a photo by photo description of the details for each shot, let me know and i will type it all in.
