Good alternatives to Canon S410/S45 and Casio QV-R41/51 EX-Z40EX-40

Recommended Posts

I've been eyeing on these cameras and trying to choose one among

them. They have different attributes, e.g. size, megapixels, degree

of control, lens focal length range etc.

Has anyone used any of these and can comment on how they compare to

each other in terms of image quality. I like the compactness of S410

and EX-Z40 but hate the limited control. The S45 seems to be perfect

but has been discontinued (at least in Canada no one carries it

anymore). The QV-R41/51 offer the best compromise in size and degree

of control but the lens can only go to 39mm on the wide side turns me

away. (Ideally 28mm up is good but no P&S's offer this).

Thanks for advice.

I expect to make 5x7 and sometime 8x10 prints from the camera.

I use the S45 as a point 'n' shoot companion to the Digital Rebel, and I've been quite

impressed with the image quality from the camera. Noise levels are high when using

ISO400 mode, but that's the only negative I've noticed (though sometimes I would like a

smaller, pocket sized camera to carry around).

Have you considered looking at the S50 which replaces the S45?
