gabriel_roca
Greetings all, Might anyone have any idea as to what this insignia on an M5 indicates? It seems to read: 50 Jahre. Granted, it's a small image but that's what I'm able to make out. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance and be well.<div></div>

gabriel_roca
AAHHHH! Easy enough, thank you. Sometimes it's the most obvious answer, I guess. Best, -Ed
Rob F.
And on the back of your commemorative M5, you will find a three digit serial number followed by one of the letters in "Leica."

working camera
The Anniversary 50 Jahre M5s were produced in batches during 1973/74. They had the standard S/N on the edge of the hot shoe and in addition as mentioned above a 3 digit number plus letter engraved in the back. under the X contact socket ie. 024-L. Both silver chrome and black 3 lug cameras were produced. The Anniversary 50 Jahre M4s were produced in 1974-75. I think they were all black paint with later versions being black chrome finish as with the M5. Some examples marked Wetzlar were actually assembled by Leitz Canada. On early examples the special three digit number appeared on the hot shoe and not the back. The regular serial number was of course engraved on the min top plate. The 50 Jahre CLs were produced again in 1974/75 some later versions were actually made by Leitz Wetzlar not in japan. Too much information I know, but at least I beat Al Kaplin.
