brady_fontenot1
I like the one in the car. What kind of color film are you using?
antonio_carusone
Thanks Brady. For these shots I use AGFA RSX 50 and believe it or not they were cross processed. When this film is XPed it doesnt get the crazy results that other films do, even though I like the crazy colors that Fuji gets.
douglas_green1
I think several of them are quite good. BTW, what did you end up doing about light metering?
antonio_carusone
Thanks Douglas. I shot a few more rolls so Im going to see how do turn out. I did a comparison with the light meter in my Contax 35mm and they were both identical. I have a feeling the lab mess somthing up. If it turns out to be the lightmeter Im going to just buy a HotShoe mounted lightmeter.
patricks
great first roll! i swung by your site and i actually think these images are a lot stronger. especially liked coke machine, the table diner one, and walking. i believe there are many diff Y124's(?) - is your the one with the 80/3.5 lens? cheers,

antonio_carusone
Thanks folks. Patrick, I have the one with the 80/3.5 Yashinon. Doug, This is the same Antonio that just bought the holder from you. For the black and white film I used Illford HP5 Plus and 100 Delta Pro. dano1
What scanner did you use? I just got started with a Yashica-A and an Epson 2450. I've shot a roll and a half of Tmax 100 already, developed the first roll myself. So far, I don't have any shots like yours. It's a little harder to find stuff to shoot here in Rockford, Illinois. It's a medium sized town (pop 100k) and the surrounding area is mostly soybean and cornfields. What city were you in? I may have to try some HP5, but it's been really hard finding ND filters for my Yashica, it takes a friggin 32mm slip on. I have seen one 32mm ND filter, but it was for a Leica, and I don't think it was slip on. There have been a few 32mm slip on yellow filters, I'll have to pick one of those up. Well, great shots, Dan O.
jeroen dommisse
The Yashinon 80/3.5 is a splendid lens. Lately, I prefer my 124G over my 35mm gear - even though I'm more of a wide angle person. What diaphragms did you use? Seems like you shot quite a lot wide open. I was in the Belgian Ardennes this Easter weekend, shot a roll of Kodak Portra 800 and two rolls of NPH. Might upload some photos (about time).
antonio_carusone
Dan, thanks. I have an Espon 3170 flatbed scanner that scans MF film. I live in NYC so that's where I shoot mostly.
markplawchan
Great first roll!--I am awaiting the arrival of a Yashica 124 (ebay)..and was wondering what I should be aware of in making a move from EOS3 equipment, (not that I plan on getting rid of the EOS stuff). I figured I'd check the meter against the one in the Canon and shoot a "test roll" (or two, or four)...were you using a 1.3v or 1.5v battery in the 124? kaiyen
Antonio, Great pictures! Congrats on the results you're getting with the 124. I, too, am jealous of your very fertile shooting locales in NYC - I'm from NJ right across the GWB, but am now in the SF Bay area. I really miss the city, and where I am now is much more suburban. Anyway. I really like my 124 (I got a 2nd one, in fact!). I am using a Wein cell in it right now, and it's lasted a loooong time. Over 6 months now, which means it is probably right about to die. But that's not so bad. And you can get them at reasonable-ish prices on ebay, to be honest. People are always talking about buying them for $15 or whatever - they're cheaper on ebay, though still pricey. I'm going to try and fashion some kind of rubber o-ring based solution with the 675 hearing aid batteries soon. I'm still trying to figure out this meter, though. I take slides, and they're perfect with minimal adjustments (I usually shoot just a hair under the meter, esp. since the shutter is a tad slow at certain speeds...I think). I shoot B&W, and the exposures are all over the place. My current theory is that it has a lot to do with the light source. If it's front-lit or there is 1 big source of light pretty much in front of the meter (like a sunset), it's fine. But if the light is to the side, and/or bouncing around in the scene all over the place, I think the meter will severely underexpose. I want to get a small handheld meter for double-checking. Carrying my N70 around as a meter isn't overly convenient. Great camera otherwise. I really like it. allan
antonio_carusone
Allan, I got the exact same results. My slides come out just fine but the BW stuff was all underexposed. I had to adjust them all in Photoshop. I wonder what it is. By the way, thanks.
dano1
Just thought I would post a photo from my Yashica-A. http://www.PhotoShare.co.nz/PhotoShareGallery1/100522/101710/AwalkalongtheRockRiver7903.jpg I did have a longer message, but photo.net deleted it. I don't feel like writing it agian. Dan O.

dano1
Thanks Antonio! I plan on picking up an 11x11 print of it today from my lab, I can't wait! And Stuart, that is a great picture. What aperture did you use? I keep on hearing all these people telling me to stop my Yashica down to F/8. Most say it's because the edges get dark or soft or something like that. Frankly, I don't see what could possibly be devastating to a picture if I shot at f/5.6 or f/4. I would like to try out a shot at f/3.5, but so far I haven't had the right light. For one thing, my shutter is one stop slow at 1/100, so I've been keeping the shutter between 1/300 and 1/100, hoping that it will come out at 1/100 or somewhere close to that. BTW, I can tell that the shutter is infinitly variable. The shutter sounds much faster at the spot I have it now than it did when it was at 1/100. Hey Stuart, where do you get filters and caps for your Yashica-A? I haven't had any luck getting anything yet. I have seen some 32mm slip on yellow filters, but they cost $20! I have seen some caps, but I am worried that they won't fit. I guess I could use it, but I don't want to buy something that I can't use. I already mistakingly bought a used Bay 1 cap, because they said it was for Yashica TLRs. Here is the link to the cap I found: http://www.kcamera.com/main/invnew/newalb.htm
StuartMoxham
I think it was 11 or 16 for the apeture but I have shot some portraits of my daughter wide open f3.5 and I found the pics to have a very nice look to them but as for caps I don't have any. If I use a filter I put the camera on a tripod and hold a filter in front of the lens. Hope this helps... Regards.....
