ryan w. radtke
I just bought this lens, and I am a bit worried. I bought it fromKEH, it is used, I think it was a demo, for about 30$ less than new. Overall a truely excepional used lens, except for one thing. When Iput the lens on my camera, elan 7, I notice that the zoom extentionshakes pretty badly when moved around quickly. I have only used thismodel lens at a store and I dont remember anything shaking, but Imight not have noticed. Just wondering if this is normal. john_mauser
I'd send it back and pay the extra for a new one. I have the new version of this lens from KEH and I don't have that problem.
peter_kim2
you mean you can shake the barrel back and forth when its zoomed to 105? Then dont do that! Mine does that too, its a function of the tube being extended...
ryan w. radtke
The tube shakes when it is extended and when it is contracted. Kinda like the zoom tube has a loose fit.
peter_kim2
Thats normal...it wont shake unles you put your hands on it and shake...Its a function of the zoom and all zooms will do this to a certain extent...If you think about it its like you have a toilet roll inside another toilet roll...if the one inside is sticking out almost all the way then of course it will be a little unstable and shake since it has less to brace against. Dont worry about it.
ron c sunshine coast, qld,a
It shouldn't sway from side to side more than 1.5-2mm and then only if you push it with your fingers (measured at the end, fully extended)
amol
Hi, Since you posted the question, I went and checked my lens, mine doesn't really move much, it is pretty tight. But my lens is only a couple months old. Personally, I felt paying a little extra ($30-50)for a new lens would be worth not having to worry. That said...if the pictures look good at all the zoom lengths(28-105), then don't worry about it. Amol
david_hansen8
I remember being shocked at how much "play" there was on my Canon 70-300 USM zoom - and I bought that one new. It didn't seem to really affect anything, but it is disconcerting. I think the answer here is "they do that" and you shouldn't worry about it unless you can't get consistent images from the lens.
