chuck_t
I asked this because if you look at the camera closely, the Digilux2 is totally different than the first Digilux1. I think the Digilux3 will have the interchangable lens mount and guess what, IT IS A DIGITAL Leica M. The lens on the Digilux2 looks like interchangeable to me. It is just a step further to make this true. What do you think? Did I miss something?

roberto_watson_garc_a
There is some in the holding of the new camera that makes it remaind an M, but you canot change lens, lens speed is not very fast, and asa is neather very sensitive. Very ergonomic I would say.
alain_besancon
No, if I don't say mistake, the lens is fixed ... and an electronic viewfinder is on the perfect opposite side of our wonderfull M ! Alain
karl_yik1
I doubt the Digilux 3 will ever appear. Instead I would think a digital back will be created for the M6/m7, or they will make an almost identically shaped M body called M7D perhaps? ;]
godfrey
The Digilux-2/DMC-LC1 camera is based on a 2/3" size sensor, the lens is a brand new design specifically targeting that sensor. So while it might be styled to look like an M, the D2 has no relation to anything M other than the name and the fact that Leica produced an optical design for it. Leica's statements indicate that their goal for an interchangeable lens digital camera compatible with the Leica M lens system is a full frame 35mm sized sensor. That is a wholly different camera in every possible way, even though it will likely be styled to look similar yet again. Godfrey
Bill Blackwell Images
Chuck: IMO, not a chance! The D-2 does not have interchangeable lenses and it's an auto-focus point and shoot. It doesn't even come close to what M-users would accept. Price-wise though, were being set up for what we might expect the digital M might cost (say, 10 mpx at $5,000 to 6,000 US). “When you come to a fork in the road, take it ...” – Yogi Berra
andrew robertson
I would bet a digital M would be more like $10000 - $12000. It'll probably be at this price point for a few years (to let the suckers and idle wealthy get one) and then the price will probably deflate to something more like $6000. george_shihanian
NO digital camera body will be on sale as new for a few years. Digital lifetimes are counted in months. Even if Leica does come out with a digital M, and it's not a day late and a dollar short- (more likely it'll be 3 years late and $6,000 short) it may fill a short-term gap for the company, but what can they do M-wise for future sales? I'd think very little, and Leica won't even be around in 3 to 5 years.
