Where to find Hasselblad back insert's serial number?

I just got a moderately used A-12 back and wanted to check that the

serial number on the back and its insert match. I found the number on

the back (obvious), but for the life of me can't find the number on

the insert. Does one have to disassemble the insert to find the

number? Could somebody please tell me where to look?

You don't get the full number. Just three digits. they are on the end right next to the knob where you wind the film to get it started.

Kevin is mostly right. The earlier A12 backs have the number on the insert written out in full on the center panel between spools, and it can be very faint & hard to read at times. Look carefully & you should be able to make it out.
