the one that got away

Sometimes I photograph more, sometimes less. Sometimes in one of the

phases when I hardly photograph at all, I get the most keepers. And

there are the moments when everything is perfect. The light, the

composition - and I'm ready to shoot, no running back to grab a

camera, no fiddling with settings. I shoot much at night, and usually

forget to put the settings back to normal, and when I shoot in

daylight the shutter sound tells me I've screwed up. Not this time,

everything is so perfect, and I even get a chance to take several

frames, and do bracket exposures. Heck, for the first time I'm really

nervous to wait for the results! And then I picked up the processed

film. And my fabulous prize winning frames..

Fact is, that probably the frames would have been as average as the

all the others on the film, since I've had these expectations many

times, and later, when I scan through the processed film, I have a

hard time to figure out what made me press the shuter. This time luck

was with me, instead of ruining my illusions of the perfect picture

with some trivial crap, I can keep on fantasizing forever about my

perfect photo. After 3 years with my reangefinder, this was actually

the first time that I forgot the lenscap.

You have my sympathy but, personally, I think that rangefinder cameras and lens caps just don't mix.

I'm pleased to announce that I have one lens cap between two Leica lenses and it lives in the bottom of a drawer, which I am inclined to think is the only safe place for it.

:-)
