Camera equipment and film equipment in Vietnam

Hello all, I am hoping to spend about 2 weeks with friends in Ho Chi

Minh City on route to Sydney and have a few qs any help much

appreciated (I have read the info on Vietnam on this site and its

very helpful). First I was wondering if there is much of a camera

trade in Vietnam and what the prices were like for lenses? Secondly

what film would you recommend....I went off slide several years ago

and tend to stick with high quality neg film and get a print and scan

package at my pro-lab. What neg film would you recommend, or should I

go back to slide (I really don't want to, but the colours & quality

are great - the storage is a pain)? Lastly any other tips pages worth

seeing. (Taking a F80 + 24-120mm VR) Cheers Dave

If you look hard enough, you'll find everything Nikon that you want

in HCM at prices comparable to US NY retailers such as B&H. If a film

has worked for you somewhere, I don't see why it would not work in

If I were looking for electronics/cameras and was atopping around that region, my prefered city would be Singapore. Just a thought, since HCM is just over an hour away (by plane).

Quang-Tuan Luong - great images on your site thanks for posting the link....you're very well travelled! The Vietnam images are great, and a great insight into what to expect. I've just graduated (in photography) and thought I would take the chance to get a bit of travelling in now before I get caught up with work (which is happening already) hadn't intended to stop enroute to Sydney but was offered the chance to stay with friends in HCM and couldn't turn it down! In the mid 90s, prices on Canon pro photo gear were cheaper in Saigon than anywhere else in the region. I'm not sure this still holds, but suspect there would be some deals there.
