The "gateway and reflection" photo shows the classic vignetting of the XA lens. Mine does the same thing. I tested the XA against a Rollei 35 (Tessar) and found the Rollei equally even in illumination across the entire transparency, while the XA clearly showed the vignette problem in slides where continuous tone is evident (sky).

 

For the record, my Nikon 28Ti did the same thing and I would expect it to vignette some degree with a slightly wider lens, but the "donut" effect was horrible at F16 and still pronounced at F11 (given the top shutter speed of this camera, F11 and F16 are sometimes needed, especially with faster films). I sold the 28Ti and bought a 35Ti which is extremely even in illumination.

 

The XA lens is very sharp and contrasty, but this inherent vignette bothers me. If you need another XA (with a couple of problems) cheap, let me know.
