cliff_henry
I have two Off Camera Shoe Cords. The newer one has groves for flash clamp on each side of the very bottom of part that flash fits into. It also has a std. 1/4x20 hold in bottom. The older cord, which works just like newer one, does not have groves for flash clamp, but it does have the std. hold. When I attach it to a Stroboframe 350 bracket, just with the screw, the weigh of the flash makes it twist. I can solve that by putting a Stroboframe Shoe-Type Flash Mount on the bracket, as I have on my Stroboframe Pro T bracket. The Flash Mount has teeth that fit into the groves and hold it in place. My question: Can I cut the groves into this part without destroying the cord? I appears to be just solid plactic and looks just like same part on newer cord w/groves. I could cut groves with a handheld mini grinder and small disc. I don't want to ruin cord - expensive - because I have a wedding to shoot this Sat. and must have both cords working. Can anyone advise? Thanks. Cliff
mark u
I think the principals risks are that the plastic of the foot might simply shatter when you attempt to cut the grooves, and that you will find it difficult to keep the grinder accurately aligned. The job might be better done with a fine bit on a table mounted router with an appropriate fence and piece holder to align the cut accurately. I don't think you will be near any of the electrics. cliff_henry
Thanks Mark. The electrial is what I am worried about. I use to operate a lathe and mill, so I think I can handle the mechanics of cutting the groves - at least I'm going to try. Cliff
