miles stoddard
I am not looking to start another debate about this camera, which is well represented on this website and others. However, I am wondering if anyone can provide magazine citations for reviews/tests (year, issue, pp., etc.) back when this camera debuted, and later when it was revamped? I have mostly blurbs from various magazines but not a full-fledged test report - and I have no real comment on the little accompanying flash. Any citations or related infor appreciated. Also, if anyone knew of a citation for a repair journal or technical breakdown. Thanks.
richard_oleson
i don't have an original review, but here is some repair data: http://www.kyphoto.com/classics/repairmanuals.html this (like other fixed lens rangefinders) was not a top-line model in its day, and most reviews focused on SLRs...... :)=
jerry_m
Miles---there was a review by Robert E. Mayer in the August 1991 issue of Shutterbug. I have a photocopy of the article if that would help you---- Jerry

bill_delehanty1
A full review by Norman Rothschild appeared in POPULAR PHOTOGRAPHY in the March, 1971 issue beginning on p. 100 and continuing on p. 104; on p. 101 there was a technical review by Norman Goldberg. Rothschild includes a substantial discussion of the Canolite D dedicated flash. Bill Delehanty St. Paul, MN
cjtower
You can find the "Modern Photography" lens test on the QL17 in the 1975 Buyer's Guide Annual, and in at least one earlier monthly issues from that same year (one of these is the graph posted above, I think). I believe Modern or Pop (not sure which one) in earlier magazines printed a LPM review of the camera, but inadvertently listed the lens data for the QL19 as for the QL17, so keep that in mind. There is a full-length review in the Japanese magazine "Camera-Art" (text in English), and I believe they disassembled the cameras and reassembled them for the test, and that they did the same on the D-flash which went with this little camera. This is a very long review, if I recall correctly, perhaps six 8x12 pages of text. If I find my photocopies I will post the exact citation for this. Also, one magazine (text might be in German though) later came with an exploded diagram of the camera, and some technical-electrical information. If I find my copy, I will post that citation, too. carina
Not exactly a vintage magazine review, but there is both a FAQ website and a brief online review which you can read here and here: http://phr.www.cistron.nl/canonet-faq.html http://www.netaxs.com/~cassidy/images/equipment/ql17/ql17.html
