john_wintheiser
Is there any way to use an off-camera flash with EOS cameras without going broke? Or should I just plan on using my ftb and an $8 flash cord when I want to use a flash off the camera? Ideas anyone?
mark u
It depends what flashguns you have, and also which bodies you are talking of. A simple hotshoe to PC adapter will allow you to use your $8 flash cord and TTL or auto thyristor or manual power flash. If you have an EX Speedlite then the off camera shoe cord (OCSC 2) retains E-TTL for bodies that support it. You should also be able to use an onboard popup flash or small gun mounted in the shoe to trigger an optically slaved main gun (has to be a "digital slave" if your body is digital using the popup). Look at www.photonotes.org/eosflash/ for details of individual bodies and Canon and some third party flashguns. If you want a really precise answer, you need to detail your equipment.
