EOS 1D -vs- Hasselblad 501 kit

I've been going back and forth between the Canon EOS 1D (digital SLR)

verse the classic Hasselblad 501 kit, medium format film.

Both are about the same price range. I currently have a EOS-3 and a

few lenses (20, 50, 100m). Plus a Yashica-C and a couple of Holgas, so

experienced with medium format. I mainly shoot black and white,

60-70% of the time, and color slides the other 30-40%.

I've also debated selling all the EOS-3 and 35mm gear to go simple and

only have the Hasselblad with one lens. No other choices or thoughts

to worry about but the subject.

But the convience for not having to scan or develop and the

flexibility of a 35mm system (macro, telephoto, etc..)

Thoughts?

Do you mean the EOS1Ds? The $8000 body?

If so, from the example shots I've seen, I think it rivals medium format without the

hassle of scanning film. It's not the best with really long exposures though.

However, if you want traditional silver enlargements for your black and white work,

film is really the only way to go still.

I'm shooting 6x9 and scanning now. If the 11mp Canon was in the $2000-$3000

range, I'd probably be using that instead. Looks like I'll be scanning for a few more

years yet.

The 1Ds is a little out there for me. I was referring to the 1D, which is 4-megapixel.

I've also heard the 1D is being discontinued, hence the lower price these days. The 10D is tempting but my concern is the feel and ruggedness of it. I love the EOS-3 and from what I've read, the 10D comes up a little short with a smaller viewfinder and not quite as solid.

To answer the last question, I can't quite classify what I shoot, it is a broad range and changes frequently with my mood and where I am.

Since I'm sure you're all dying to know my decisions, I have already made one. I bought a used Hasselblad 501CM and I'm loving it! I need to remember not to remove the shield on a loaded film back (d'oh!) I traded in my Yashica-C, unfortunately it wasn't a straight 1-for-1 deal. :)

And as far as digital, I'm still debating it. Right now I'm leaning towards selling all the EOS 35mm gear and picking up a Canon Powershot G5. Small and compact, who needs all that glass for a small digital sensor. From what I've seen and read it looks like it gives good quality pics.
