Filters for 50mm Summitar

I have a IIIf with 50mm Summitar. What is required to mount filters

on this lens since it has no threads for a filter?

Hi John, Leica, Walz and Kenko all made special filter sets for this lens. I have a couple gathering dust at home. The filters screw into the threads around the inside of the lens and are a bit smaller than standard 39mm filters. With the adapter SOOQR they can be mounted on modern 39mm leica lenses. If you were hoping to mount a modern skylight filter on the lens, good luck. Hope this helps a bit... Somebody here will inevitably ask you why on earth you would want to use a filter in the first place.

There is a thread deep in. There were Leitz and independent screw-in filters (eg Walz) made for it. They do turn up second hand but none new. I understand an adaptor to allow fitting of 39mm filters was available, say around 1960

Both filters and the adapter for E39 filters (SNHOO/13078) show up infrequently on eBay

and also can be found with a little digging at the usual Leica used places.

Thanks for the replies. I took a closer look and found the inside threads. Since I have a good selection of E39 filters for my M lenses the adapter sounds like the way to go.
