Speedlite help...

I googled for this, looked @ Loke's & Guy's sites and found no

results.

1) I have always set my EOS-5 cf16 off so I have control of fill

flash reduction w/540EZ. On my EOS-1 w/430EZ is there an auto. fill

flash reduction? If so, does anyone know how EOS-1 adjust

reduction?

2) I always shoot in manual mode indoors w/flash. I see in 430EZ

manual, pg. 63 about bounce flash "Set camera to any mode

except 'M'". "Bounce flash photo can be performed in M mode but

calculations are necessary to determine the flash coupling range."

I use Lumiquest Bouncer. Manual doesn't say what calculations to

make! This restriction is not in the 540EZ manual. Can anyone

explain?

Thanks for any help or referrals to URL.

I'll answer 2). http://photonotes.org/articles/eos-flash/#attl

Read under "Limitations of ATTL". Essentially there is no warning of inadequate flash power. So long as you're not trying to use a narrow aperture in a large room, in practice you'll probably be fine. If you want to mess with calculations of maximum flash range, you'll need to look up the guide number for the lens zoom angle of the flash, and divide by your aperture narrowed say 1.5 stops to account for light loss on reflection and compare with your estimate of the total flash to subject distance (flash to ceiling, ceiling to subject).

2) Bounce flash works fine with the camera in M mode. I think Mark's right, it's just a reference to limitations of flash distance while bouncing with possibly a small aperture.

1) I have never read that the EOS 1 adjusts auto fill flash reduction any differently that other EOS cameras with A-TTL/TTL flash units. I believe it should be the same; start reduction at EV-10, subtracting a half stop of flash power for each stop of ambient light increased, until EV-13, for a max of -1.5 stops flash reduction.
