Hi Guys:

I was planning to buy the tripod mount for my Canon 70-200 f/4 lens.

But, I have heard some poeple warn about certain battery grips

hindering its use. I have a D60 with the "Big Ed". Has anyone used

the tripod mount with this configeration?

Thanks,

John

I have no problem with my 10D/Big Ed/EF 70-200 4L USM and my Bogan and Gitzo heads. The problem combo is the Elan 7E/BP-300/EF 70-200 4L USM. The BP-300 is too small to clear the head assembly, thus the protruding grip portion strikes large and medium head assemblies. The larger battery packs/grips, e.g., PB-B2 or Big ED, hang lower and thus the protruding grip portion is positioned below most head assemblies.

Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see.

I could not use my D60/70-200mm f4 combo on my Bogen with the RC2 system (new name, don't remember the old name),which uses the 3157N plate. The battery grip would hit the release lever. I now use the Bogen 488 ball head with the RC4 system. This is the one with the built in levels and the lever to the side. If you put the bubble level towards the back, the recommended way I guess, the battery grip will hit the plate casting. But if you turn it 180˚, bubble level to the front, it works fine. I have found that with the bubble in the front it is not a hinderance to checking it.
