brennerrmb
I am thinking of getting a used Hasselblad 1.4X PC-Mutar teleconverter. I have the 203FE body, so I won't have to use the double cable release. My interest is not so much for the shift function as for the 1.4X teleconverter function, though I might play with the shift function for cityscapes. I assume, because the Zeiss Mutar 2X teleconverter is so much sharper than the 2XE converter, that the 1.4X PC-mutar will be sharper than the 1.4XE. However, I have never used one and would appreciate comments on anyone who has. Robert Brenner
edward_burlew
You are barking up the wring tree, the 1.4 shift is bulky and , yes it is sharp. You will loose all of the electrical contacts of the 200 series advantage. the lense will not automatically close the iris, the lense will be like an ancient preset. brennerrmb
Edward: I am willing to give up the convenience of the electrical contacts in order to get really sharp pictures with a 1.4x teleconverter. I have never gotten a sharp picture with the 1.4XE,even with the 180CFE lens, to which it was supposed to be best matched.
cameron_ertman
When I use the 1.4XE along with the CF180mm I get results that are virtually indistinguishable from using the lens as prime (I use an 8X loupe, not a microscope to check this). I achieve those results by using a good, heavy duty tripod, cable release, a 45 degree focusing hood, and a split screen accumat focusing screen. I also have made a lens/camera support bracket that the combo. can be bolted to for even greater stability on the tripod. Robert, if you take some time with technique, you will not be dissapointed with that converter.
