shuja_siddiqui
I'm considering to buy S400 untill recently A80 is released. As I'm buying digital camera for the first time, I'm really confused about the quality of both cameras. A80 is rated higher than S400, whereas S400 is approx. $50 more in price.Kindly help me out. I'm looking for a good quality image in digital camera. ThanksShuja
e_lin
go for the a80... its a decent camera with manual mode. the s400 is also a nice camera, but its a tiny one... you won't get much of a grip from it. plus... larger cameras have better image quality... Digital slr vs Compact vs Point and Shoot. cuz of the bigger CCD or CMOS. you get better quality data from each "megapixel"
grepmat
The two cameras have identical sensors, so you should consider other factors. Cheers.
phule
You can't go wrong with either camera.
I went with the A80 because:
1) It was less expensive.
2) I could use rechargable AA batteries.
3) Has the flip-out screen.
4) Can add additional wide-angle or telephoto lenses and/or filters.

pradeep satyaprakash
Same dilemma for buying a camera for my mother. Went with the A80 for all the reasons noted above plus: 1. Easier to Hold 2. Aperture, Shutter, and Manual controls
wilsontsoi
Same here, I went with the A80 after considering S400, S45/50, and G3/5. The A80 meets my requirements of: 1. Pocketable 2. Flip-out & twist screen 3. AA batteries and the niceties that comes with it: 4. Manual/aperture/shutter priority modes 5. Adapter w/52mm filter size 6. Comfortable grip 7. 4 MP (v.s. A70's 3.2) All in all, the A80 is like a G3-lite. While the G3/G5 is too big to fit in pocket, the S400 is too small for my hand most of the time.
