Pictured Rocks Photo Ops

I have found that Pictured Rocks is less crowded than Porcupine Mountains. Perhaps were hitting it at different times. Ive been to Pictured Rocks five times in the last four years. For waterfalls I like Mosquito and Chapel Falls. Both are a relatively short hike of roughly a mile (one way) from the same parking area. If you go to Chapel falls you might consider following the trail further to Chapel Rock (an interesting rock formation on the Superior shore. Following the shoreline trail to the west form Chapel Rock will present you with interesting rock formations along the shoreline. You do have to exercise some caution as this trail follows the edge of shoreline cliffs with a shear drop to the lake and rocks below. That said there are quite a few points where the cliffs "jut-out" towards the lake and offer a view back to the rock face and waterline. For sandy shoreline/sunset pics "Twelvemile Beach" is a gorgeous stretch of water, sand and pine trees at the east end of the lakeshore. These are just a couple points of interest. Its a big beautiful park. A stop at the Visitor information center in Munising for a trail map would be a good idea. Have a great time!

There are a slew of falls and fantastic hikes in the Pictured Rocks area. Definate must sees include Chapel Rock(A sea stack with a lone pine on top) and you will pass Bridal Veil Falls on the way. Look for opportunities with Miners Castle, Miners Falls, Wagner Falls, Au Sable as well as the dunes, gnarled trees and ridged sandstone. The water on Lake Superior can range from a light turquoise during calm weather(1 foot waves) to a slate grey with 20-25 foot chop in November storms. Well worth your while to hunt down a book on michigan lighthouses as well as guides to michigan falls. Animals you can expect to see, The Loon, Canadian Geese, White Tailed Deer, Porcupine, Herons, Black Bear, and from time to time, moose(40 of them in Baraga County). Have a great trip.
