karen_de_luna
i have an old (1973) hasselblad 500c/m that needs a tune up. when i set my 80mm lens at infinity and shoot, the photo turns out blurry. the scene also looks blurry through on the focusing screen. when i set my 150mm lens at infinity and shoot, the photo is perfect and i can focus properly. this seems to indicate a problem with the lens (80mm t*). can anyone recommend a reliable repair shop in NYC? thanks. olivier_nguyen
Hi, You can try ESSEX CAMERA SERVICE, INC in New Jersey. They are all Asian (hong kong or korean) but they are very good. their phone number is (201) 933-7272
jay_.
That's a fairly racist remark espcially coming from an Asian (well, ok a Southeast Asian).
bill_dewberry
I've always been happy with the work from hasselblad usa, and I'm in california. Just ship it to them, you can be assured its fixed right the first time.
philippe_tempel
I last used Hasselblad USA as well. They are also in NJ (right off Rt.46 in Fairfield, I think). I went there in person since I'm only about 20 min away. :-) The service was good, IMO. I have the same camera (500C/M) as you. Word of warning on the old C lenses. They are a great value (I have four) but parts are getting scarce (also depends on what needs to be replaced).
db1
I would send it to Hasselblad USA to have them work on it. Keep the receipt as it helps when trying to sell it.
s._c.
Hasselblad USA is greatly recommended. There is a Hasselblad authorized repair shop in Manhattan: Nippon Photo Clinic, Inc. located at 920 Broadway Suite #705 New York, NY 10010 (212) 982-3177. I took some work there in which they estimated approximately a week's time, but were finished in exactly two days. I have since inquired about other equipment repairs and if they don't service it, they have been happy to provide information or suggestions. robert_marvin
Eddie Smolov, of Active Camera in Brooklyn is an excellent repair person. I don't own a Hasselblad, but he's done repairs on my Pentacon Six with no problems.(If he can work on one of these quirky E. German beasts, he should be able to repair ANYTHING). Eddie's service is quick and very reasonably priced. I've noticed that he sells used Hasselblads that he has CLAed. Eddie is at 117 7th Ave,( @ President Street). in Park Slope. His phone number is (718) 622-5373. Active Camera shares a store with Photofaction, an adequate, if unspectacular, general camera store--AFAIK the two businesses are otherwise totally separate. mike_barger
Hi Try David Odess in Randolph, MA Telephone 781-963-1166 Prices inline with most big shops, and he will keep after it, I had a A-12 back that required four returns to fix a light leak. john_lee23
I've used Nippon Photo Clinic as well. I think they are still in business and I may have them look at my Nikon F maybe my Rolleiflex (if they work on them). Run by 2 middle age Japanese, very professional and they are true craftsman and honest.
