mrbutterworth
I wrote to DAG about having M2 framelines put into my M6 for a bit greater framing accuracy. He says that it is possible, but I will lose the meter because there is no hole in the mask for the meter diodes to shine through.
Does anyone know if it is possible to modify a M2 or M4 frameline mask to allow the meter diodes to be seen? Has anyone had it done?
Thanks, Nick
charles barcellona www.bl
I'm gonna go way out on a limb here and suggest that if Don Goldberg says it cant be done, it cant be done.
m m
I seem to recal someone on this list selling an M6, maybe nine months ago, that had M2 brightlines installed... If an M3 can be adapted to M6 metering(cha ching$), then I have no problem believing a frameline swap is possible.
Rob F.
Charles is probably right, but you might check with Reinhold Mueller in Toronto. He has undertaken some formidable Leica mods. I don't have his phone number, but maybe you can google it. Out of curiosity, is this an M6 classic or TTL?
Rob F.
I googled it. Reinhold's number is 416-467-6992.
craig_egerer1
Nick, You might consider this option. A M6J finder or the whole camera , I saw both listed last night on ebay.
sal dimarco
Nick, The M6 framelines can be blocked off. I have had the 75mm framelines removed from one of my M6s and will get my other M6s done when they go in for service. It is a VERY delicate procedure. The frameline mask is surprisingly small and fragile. It can be costly, and I don't think you will be gaining any framing accuracy by doing it. george_b1
Nick - When I sent my M6 to DAG for a CLA, I asked him to remove the 28,75 and 135 framelines. He did that, leaving the meter intact. He didn't replace the M6 with an M2 viewfinder, but just blacked out the extraneous frames.
jay_.
I think what Nick is wanting is the larger framelines from the M2 which more closely represent what will appear on film, rather than the shrunken framelines of the M6 that show about 80% of what appears on film at distances other than close up. Perhaps Reinhold, who is noted for his willingness to make novel modifications, could cut the required hole for the meter.
mrbutterworth
Jay's got the right idea, but thanks for all the responses!
I'll give Reinhold a call.
BTW - it's a TTL
