chris_kedrowski
Since you really can't use a ND filter too easily, how can I get longexposures during the day for reasons such as water blur? I actuallyhaven't received my S400 yet, so if I can learn this from the manual, please forgive me. Thanks
bobatkins
Simple answer - you can't. You'll have to wait for evening or a really, really dark day... That or just hold an ND filter in front of the lens.
steve_simons
I've tried with my A70, the thing with consumer digitals is that the lens' smallest aperture is f/8... It's awful to even attempt it. You'd need something with like an f/22 if you're not using some sort of special filter.
bobatkins
At f22 a small consumer digital with a small sensor would give very soft images. They reason they stop at f8 is that below that image quality will rapidly degrade due to diffraction. It's just like the fact that you can use f64 on a view camera and get sharp results, but on a smaller format like 35mm, past f16, maybe f22, the image starts to suffer. With a really small format like a consumer digital (7mm x 5mm), diffraction blurring starts to happen past f8.
