joop
I am looking for some nice photo books by famous (leica) photographers. Which books/photographers are your favourites? Thanks for advice!
thomas_moraitis
Sebastião Salgado, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Constantine Manos; you can also check at the Magnum site or the Leica site. terry_rory
"Down the deep lanes" or "A corner of England" or "An English eye" all by James Ravilious. All of these books are superb studies of the people and landscapes of small farming communities and villages in Devon England. James, sadly, died in 1999 but spent two and a half decades using his Leica M3 to document these unique communities and their harsh but beautiful environs for the Beaford archive in Devon before their way of life was lost forever. terry_rory
An example or two.... http://www.cannsdownpress.co.uk/jpg/d20.jpg http://www.cannsdownpress.co.uk/jpg/d16.jpg http://www.cannsdownpress.co.uk/jpg/d41.jpg And the man himself (James Ravilious) with the trusty M3 and an uncoated pre-war Elmar/M mount adaptor and modified hood and VIOOH finder. thomas_vanhaute1
Definately check out "Children of Bombay" by Italian photographer Dario Mitidieri. One of the best photo-essays ever made, and a beautifully edited book. Essay was sponsored by and shot with Leica. www.mitidieri.com
lee_shively
Anything by William Eggleston, Elliott Erwitt and Ralph Gibson. "Artless Art...", which is about Henri Cartier-Bresson (but only Bender would read every word of the mish-mash, overly intellectualized text). "The Americans" and "Lines of My Hand" by Robert Frank, one of my heros. "Let Truth be the Prejudice" about W. Eugene Smith (which shows him to be an obsessed, passionate photographer but a hopelessly pathetic person). "Eisenstaedt Remembers" and "Eisenstaedt on Eisenstaedt". And, not Leica, but for no other reason than to show an 8x10 view camera can be used for "candids": "Immediate Family" by Sally Mann.
grant_.
any reason why you are limiting yourself to leica photographers only?
