samusiskin
Hi I own a Canon EOS 50E with a Sigma 28-135mm F3.5-56 Macro Aspherical I.F that I use as my 'walking around' lens. I am considering replacing it with a used Canon EF 28-105mm F3.5-4.5 USM. I am not massively dissapointed with the Sigma but not exactly thrilled with it either (build quality seems poor, zoom creep is annoying). I'm not to worried by the shorter focal length of the Canon as I don't use that end very often, but would like people's opinions on whether the Canon is much better in terms of overall optical performance (sharpness/distortion/contrast etc)as well as build quality. I am a reasonably experienced amateur who shoots quite a wide range of stuff. Many thanks in advance for your opinions.
peza
Yes - this lens is reasonable sharp from f/8 onwards by high standards.
pc1
or try to find a used EF 28-135 IS , also check out the Tamron lens 24-135mm, both have very important focal lenghts, specifically on the Tamron ,where u get 4mm extra on the wide end, but stick with the Canon if you find one priced reasonably.. pc
yakim_peled1
At f/8-11 I found the 28-105 very good. It's small, it's faster (both in aperture and AF speed), you will never have to fear from future incompatibility problems.... I'd go for it. Happy shooting , Yakim.
