mark_muse
I have a Gitzo 1325 (carbon fiber) tripod with a Gitzo 1270 low-profile 3-way head, about which I have some questions: Does anyone know of a practical way to add spikes to these legs? None seem to be available from Gitzo and Gitzo have not answered my inquiries regarding them. One of the movements in the head, the lower tilt (the shorter tilt knob) is way too stiff. Is there an adjustment for this? None is obvious to me. Thanks in advance.
arne_croell
The standard spikes Gitzo sells for the non-CF tripods don't work for the carbon fiber ones. There is the video version of yours, the 1325V, that has built-in retractable spikes (but also a video bowl at the top). If you order three lower 1325V leg sections as replacement parts from Gitzo, and exchange them with yours, you'll have your spikes. I don't know what parts cost but it is probably an expensive solution...
lbi115l
Head stiffness. You can get it from watching this board for too long.
john_burnley3
I believe that Bogen/Manfrotto spikes will fit into the leg cavity of this model. For a more elegant (and expensive) solution, SK Grimes can fabricate inserts with threads to accomodate Gitzo's excellent spikes. At a trade show last year the Gitzo rep told me, "we are working on it" (this shortcoming).
